Four storeys, two data halls per storey, water-cooled. The building had to run at 15 MW and grow to 45 MW without ever touching the halls already live.

A data centre that grows in phases has a problem one built in a single go does not: phase two has to be built while phase one is running. That, not the facade, is the requirement that set this building’s shape.
The arrangement answers it. Two data halls per storey, four storeys, with cooling and electrical rooms placed so each expansion step can be connected without opening a hall in service. The water-cooled plant sits on the roof and on dedicated plant floors, which keeps maintenance out of the data hall entirely — an operator requirement fixed early.
The CFD work happened in pre-design, and that is the point of it: it tested the containment arrangement while the plan could still move. Simulation that arrives after developed design only confirms what is already drawn.
The office block at the front is the only part of the complex that presents itself to the street. Behind it everything the building does is technical: distribution corridors, switchrooms, and a roof given over almost entirely to cooling.
